Let me take you to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where the breathtaking framed art piece "Amplitude" was born. While working on a documentary about the shifting global population, my creative partner Elyse and I embarked on an incredible journey through 20 countries in just the year 2019. One of our early morning shoots in Rio de Janeiro led us to an unforgettable moment.
We rose at the crack of dawn to fly the drone at sunrise, while the city is still asleep. We captured b-roll footage for the documentary and as we were flying the drone back to the hotel where we took off, I noticed this incredible abstract sidewalk in the frame. The drone battery was dying though and we had to bring it back before it died. I framed up the shot as quickly as I possibly could, fired a few shots of this incredible and unique sidewalk, then landed the drone with seconds to spare. Even in the rush of it all - everything fell into place perfectly. A true testament to the art of noticing. Nature and beauty are all around us - it's up to us to decide if want to take the time to be present and engage with it.
